Locksmith in Parkdale, OntarioDeadbolts installedthe right way
A deadbolt is only as strong as the hole it was bored into and the plate it throws into. In Parkdale we install new deadbolts on doors that have never had one, replace worn units on doors that have, and set the strike so the bolt slides home without lifting or leaning on the door.
After a break-in, households in Parkdale need the door secured tonight and the decisions made later. We come out, board or repair what is damaged, replace or rekey anything that might have been compromised, and leave you with a locked house. Conversations about strike plates and better cylinders wait until the shock has passed and you are ready to have them.

For a business, high security means the stockroom, the cash office and the server closet hold whatever happens, and a departing manager's key cannot be quietly copied. Restricted keyways, numbered keys and a signed register are how that is achieved.
The cash office, the stockroom, the server closet and the medication cupboard need locks that behave differently from the front door. Commercial services cover those internal doors with cylinders, keying and, where it fits, access control that records who opened what.
About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Basement and side entries on older homes were often fitted long after the house was built, with whatever lock was on hand. Bringing those doors up to the standard of the front entry, and onto the same key, is a common and satisfying job.
23%
Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).
Landlords and property managers dominate in attached housing, and they want keys organised. A locksmith sets up master systems so a manager carries one key while each tenant's key opens only their own door.
WhyServicing the original lock is usually the better choice for an older home, for practical reasons as much as sentimental ones.
The padlock on the side gate has gone stiff every winter for three years running, and this year the key simply will not turn past the first few pins. The usual fix
My key snapped off in the lock. Is that still a lockout call?
It starts the same way and adds one step. The broken blade is removed with extraction tools that grip it and draw it out, rather than pushing it deeper, and then the door is opened normally. A key rarely breaks in a healthy cylinder, so the locksmith checks the pins and springs afterwards and cleans or services the cylinder if wear caused it. A new key is cut from the two halves or from the code, since a weakened copy would snap again.
What happens if the piece cannot be removed?
It is rare, and it is discussed before anything changes. A glued, jammed or corroded-in fragment can usually still be reached by taking the cylinder off the door and working the plug out from the back. If even that fails, the cylinder is drilled where plug meets housing, sacrificed and replaced on the spot with new keys cut, so the door locks normally by the time the locksmith leaves.
What information helps before you come out?
Whether the door takes a skeleton-style bit key or a flat key in a round cylinder, roughly when the house was built, what the knob and bolt are doing, and whether the trouble is worse with the door closed. A photo of the faceplate in the door edge and one of the keyhole side is worth a great deal. Mention how many doors are involved and how many keys you would like afterwards.
Should every gate on my property share one key, or is it better to keep them separate?
Either can make sense, and the choice usually comes down to who uses which gate and how often. A household that walks through the front and side gates daily generally prefers one key for both, while a gate that only a landscaper or utility worker uses is sometimes kept on its own key deliberately, so lending it out does not hand over access to everything else. The locksmith can lay out both options once every gate on the property has been looked at.
Can the system be expanded to more doors later?
Yes. A system installed with some spare capacity in its controller and power supply can usually take another door or two by adding a reader and lock and wiring it back in. A door far from the existing wiring can instead run its own standalone unit. Either way, existing schedules and credentials do not need to be rebuilt from scratch.
